Finding your way around

Black Rock City, the name of the community that springs up each year for BurningMan is big, really big. It's about 6 miles from edge to edge, that's why you need to bring your bike.

It's pretty easy to find your way around. Streets are concentric circles and lines radiating from the man. The innermost circle is called always called Esplanade. The next street always starts with an A, the next with a B, etc. until you get to the outermost street which for 2006 is H. The street names for 2006 are Anxious, Brave, Chance, Destiny, Eager, Fate, Guess, and Hope.

The straight streets radiating from the man are like the numbers on a clock. Starting at 2:00 on the right side and ending at 10:00 on the left side.

This is a handy tool to find where the registered theme camps are located:

First Timer's Guide to Burninman

Last year was my first trip to BurningMan. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who has been thinking about going. However, it is not for everyone. The key is to be totally prepared and "radically self reliant". First and foremost, you must read everything in the First Timer's Guide.

Other things I like to bring:
Water - 30 gallons in the RV tank, 25 gallons in bulk containers, 5 gallons of drinking water
Goggles
Dust Mask
Bicycle w/light + lock
Costumes (made of fake fur)
Hat
Sun shower
Large plastic tub
